BHC for NGOs

We help civil society organizations integrate a human rights aspect into their activities. BHC provides consultations on the human rights based approach and the use of international human rights mechanisms, and assists in developing protection algorithms for target groups.

We also support the participation of initiatives in preparing joint reports, enabling them to make their voices heard at the international level.

BHC contributes to the development of the sector by helping to form and strengthen the framework for non-formal education in the field of human rights.

Human rights based approach

BHC advises civil society initiatives on the human rights based approach. We provide support in developing internal policies, training materials, and programs, and help integrate a human rights-based approach into organizational work.

Joint reports to international mechanisms

We provide individual consultations on using international human rights mechanisms (for example, the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the Committee on the Rights of the Child).

We coordinate the preparation and submission of some joint reports. Important: initiatives can remain anonymous upon request!

We inform initiatives in a timely manner about opportunities offered by international human rights mechanisms (for example, when a mechanism starts collecting information).

International human rights mechanisms calendar

We created this calendar to make it easier and more convenient for NGOs to use international human rights mechanisms to support their target audiences.

Calls from international mechanisms can be filtered by tags (topics of your work or target audience), deadlines, and the type of reporting (periodic or ad hoc).

UN mechanisms offer a different perspective on the challenges faced by target groups and human rights issues, helping to identify violations that may not be obvious. They are also a key tool for documenting human rights violations and highlighting them at the international level.

Joint support for target groups

Various individual cooperation scenarios are possible.

Most often, we help develop algorithms to protect the rights of CSO target groups. Examples of such cooperation include: the algorithm “How to get access to criminal cases and materials of repressed relatives,” “How to deal with bullying in educational institutions,” and others.

Cooperation on the development of non-formal human rights education

Together with 12 major Belarusian providers of non-formal human rights education, as part of the Human Rights Education Lab (HRE Lab) of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), in 2024 BHC experts developed the “Framework of human rights competences for the non-formal education sector of the Belarusian civil society”.
