Business and Human Rights in Belarus: Context of the Political Crisis and the Human Rights Crisis 2020–2021
The document presents an analytical review of the scale of human rights violations by Belarusian business in the context of the political and human rights crisis of 2020–2021 in three dimensions: «business–worker», «business–client» and «business–local community». It examines the extent, forms of involvement, and the role of the state in these violations, as well as provides a brief analysis of state pressure on business as a tool of influence.
Special attention is given to the key consequences of the political and human rights crisis affecting the development of the «business and human rights» agenda in Belarus. Based on the findings of the study, specific recommendations for business are formulated on implementing human rights due diligence procedures when working in/with Belarus, as well as framework recommendations for state authorities.
