Business and Human Rights in Belarus: Guideline for Business, 2016
A guideline has been prepared for Belarus to help businesses understand how to respect human rights.
Working with human rights benefits a company's reputation, improves working conditions and employee productivity, and increases the chances of becoming a partner of major international corporations and attracting investment from Western investors.
The guideline was prepared by the Belarusian human rights organization RPOO “Belarusian Helsinki Committee” in cooperation with the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR).
The Danish Institute for Human Rights cooperates with many renowned commercial companies to identify both the negative and positive impacts of their activities on the human rights situation.
For example, Nestlé has been working with the Danish Institute for Human Rights since 2008. The company itself approached the Institute with a request for a detailed analysis of shortcomings and gaps regarding respect for human rights in its commercial activities and corporate policies. In 2010, Nestlé and the Danish Institute signed a partnership agreement aimed at fully supporting the company's commitment to respect and uphold human rights, as explicitly reflected in Nestlé’s Corporate Business Principles.
